Preserving Our Rainforest

One of the most beautiful creation that God did created is the rainforest. It contains more species o plants and animals than any other habitat on earth.
The great rainforests are the forest of South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. The tropical climate here is always warm and wet, with no winter, and plants grow all the year round.
As a result, trees grow thickly, ferns, vines and other plants.
These help support an extraordinary rich variety of the life of animals, particularly birds and insects.

The rainforest is a place where plants grow rapidly and to reach the sunlight trees grow very tall. There are three distinct layers of rainforest. The forest floor, the understorey and the canopy.

The main canopy is usually between 30 to 50 meters above ground, where the slander trunks break into cluster of branches. The tallest trees reach even higher, to around 60 meters. The canopy shades the understorey from the sunlight, and here it is much darker.

The understorey consists of tree trunks covered with lianas (climbing plants) and laced together by creepers.

The forest floor is surprisingly free of clutter. Leaves, fruits, animal droppings and bodies of dead forest animals decomposed quickly when they fall into the ground. Their chemicals are absorbed as nutrients by plants roots and used to make new growth.

Sad to say that trees of rainforest are being used as timber, and large areas of rainforest have been destroyed by logging. Vast areas of rainforest were being cleared to make way for plantations of other products. Often this is done by cutting trees and burning shrubs. When trees are cleared from the hillside, the soil maybe left exposed and when heavy rain falls, thus resulting soil erosion.

We need the rainforest. They act as the earth's lungs by giving off oxygen into the atmosphere. Plants are also used as medicine. Let's help preserve our rainforest by cooperating with the government law of protecting our rainforest.

Preserve Our Ocean Life

As we know that nearly ¾ of the earth’s surface is covered by water. The deep and wide oceans, they are the homes of countless living creatures from the smallest to the biggest one.
Our world has four oceans namely: Arctic, Indian, Atlantic and the Pacific. The biggest of them is the Pacific. It is the biggest and deepest ocean among them.

The ocean has two main zones, the ocean basin (the deepest part) and the shallow continental shelf at the edge of the land. Along the coast, the seashore forms a constantly changing margin between sea and land. There are different types of shoreline where coastal rocks are soft, features such as clefts change quickly. Hard rocks wear away slowly. Even the everyday action of a relatively calm sea will erode the shoreline.

The oceans have been used by humans for thousands of years. It became their source of food, means of transport in ships, and as a dumping ground for waste. Fishing is an ancient human activity. Humans are not satisfied by the way they catch fish. They try to discover modern ways on how to catch large amount of fish. They use modern vessels, large nets, devices such as radar for tracking fish shoals. Today, valuable food fish are becoming rare in areas where they once numbered millions. Because of the modern fishing methods that are simply too efficient. Nets often trap immature fish which have not yet been able to breed.

The oceans have become a dumping ground for all kinds of rubbish. Every year more than 3 million tons of oils are spilled into the sea. Much of this is washed out of the tanks of oil tankers before they reload. About half of the pollution of the oceans is caused by waste dumping. Domestic wastes are being dumped into the sea. These cause problems, because they will not decay naturally and so remain a lasting danger to wildlife. Chemicals are often toxic to people, as well as to fish.

The whales were also sea living creatures. Today, whale hunting become so relevant because of the demand of whale oil and other product s that comes from whale. How can we save our whale if nations will not cooperate in whaling bans which can help save the little remaining species of whales?

The coral reefs are the earth’s oldest living communities. Most of them are between 5,000 and 10,000 years old. They are rich in wildlife species like the rain forest. A single reef may contain 3,000 species of coral, mollusk, crustacean and fish. The delicate population of reefs is easily damaged by the population of the water, removal of coral for sale as a souvenir and over-hunting by spear fishers. How can we protect them if we try to continue on abusing them.

Such attitude of humans if not being change will make our world lost its sea living creature. Let’s remember that these species are a great help to us. Help preserve our sea living creatures. Let’s support government program in protecting them. Let’s take care of the beauty of nature that God has given us.

Restore our Rivers and Streams

If we try to look at our rivers and streams, hence we can say that it really needed restoration. Almost of our rivers today lost its beauty and we cannot see living creatures enjoying swimming in its rich and bountiful water due to abuse of nature.

The restoration of rivers and streams has attracted increased interest and funding in recent years, as a result of legal requirements to mitigate damage to important habitats and as a positive avenue through which citizens can take steps to improve their environment.  River restoration is undertaken for a variety of goals, including restoration or enhancement of aquatic and riparian habitat, provision of functional recreational corridors in urban areas, and to improve water quality.  River restoration activities include recreation of meander bends on straightened channels, modification of channel geometry to create habitat for fish, planting banks with riparian vegetation, and creating open channels from streams formerly encased in underground culverts.  Ironically, the attractiveness of river restoration today is possible only following the elimination of point sources of water pollution effected in recent decades (in the US as a result of the Clean Water Act).

River and stream restoration does not constitute a separate field or a unique bag-of-tricks to be used on degraded rivers.  Rather, restoration involves the intelligent and integrated application of knowledge and techniques from other fields, such as ecology, hydrology, and geomorphology.  While the goals of restoration projects are often ecological in nature, the hydrology and geomorphology of the channel commonly determines whether the project ultimately achieves its objectives.  (As noted by the National Research Council in its 1992 report Restoration of Aquatic Ecosystems, many river restoration projects have failed because they were based more on 'folklore' than sound hydrologic and geomorphic analyses.)   Thus, the application of sound geomorphic analysis is prerequisite to successful restoration planning and design.

Each of us need to contribute for rivers and streams restoration in order to bring back the environment which we have before for the future of our children. Preserve nature, restore the rivers and streams.

Help Preserve Natural Resources

Natural resources plays a great help in nature. Many nations create laws which will help to preserve natural resources but sad to say that people still abuse our natural resources and the result is, it is still human beings who suffer its effect.
As we see our natural resources are becoming increasingly stressed as a greater demands are placed on their ability to provide us with their life giving services.

As the trees were cut down, lakes were drain, rivers and aquifers, and the land in the cities which are productive were covered. Due to human's ability in doing what should not be done to our natural resources, the result is, our natural resources lost its capacity to provide for us exactly what we need. On the other hand, our action reduce the amount of resoures that are available in the first place. We need to preserve the limited amount of natural resources that we do have, so that the earth can continue to provide.

Just think of what our natural resources provides for us everyday and we need not to pay for it, it's free. Our natural resources provide us with an immense amount of services everyday, which we as humans do not value very well because we do pay for it. We should learn how to value it because it was given by God and it is a great blessings on our part.

Sad to say that though how many times the government implement laws, give warnings, but still humans abusive atitude made it to become little by little everyday. They are destroying the natural resources just for their own good. They never thought of the generations to come. What will they be? Who will give them fresh air to breathe everyday, clean water to drink and clean and beautiful surroundings to live in. If today no one ever cared for the natural resources who freely gives us these things and we never pay for it. It's the gift of nature.

We should help in conserving our natural resources not just for today but for the generations to come.

Plant Trees to Preserve Nature

We heard news from different parts of the world that many countries suffer from flood, soil erosion or landslide. It is because of man's abusive attitude to nature. Trees were being cut down and no replacements were made. Trees whose roots use to hold the soil to prevent flood and soil erosion, sad to say were cut down due to personal interest.

As a result of this, many lives were lost, houses and properties were lost due to floods and soil erosion. The world need to do something to prevent this calamity that has come. Many more lives will be lost if we will not find ways and means to solve this problem. Let us bring back the trees that has gone out from our mountains. We need to have reforestation.

When we say reforestation, it is the restocking of existing forests and woodlands which have been depleted. Reforestation can be used to improve the quality of human life by soaking solution and dust from the air, rebult natural habitats and ecosystem, mitigate global warming since forests facilitate biosequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide, and harvest for resources, particularly timber. We need to replace those trees which was taken out for we know that trees plays greater rule in our environment. We must do this not just for our own good but for the good of the generations to come. Let's help plant trees, let's participate in the reforestation.

When we will do this a very great change will happen to our environment. It's not only that we participate in government programs but most of all we help build for the future, we help bring back the forest. We also help the wild animals. Though we cannot see the result right away but our children will be the one to harvest each effect.

Help save the environment. Let's plant trees.

Polluted Air Around Us

Living in this polluted world we are not sure that the air we breathe are still fresh air. We know that wherever we go, almost of the air we breathe were already polluted. Air pollution is caused by a variety of things. The earth is great at cleaning the air on its own. However, air pollution has grown so much, the earth could no longer clean all of it. This is now the start of adverse effect on the environment such as causing acid rain, smog and a wide variety of health problems.

Cars, trucks, jet airplanes and other combustion engine vehicles cause air pollution. The exhaust from these contains carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide and gaseous oxide. This type of air pollution creates smog which causes respiratory health problems and holes in the ozone layer, which increases the exposure to the sun harmful race.

Factories, office buildings, homes and power-generating stations burn fossils fuels, which cause air pollution. This air pollutions destroys plants, damages buildings and create oxidation on iron.

Petroleum refineries release hydrocarbons and various particulates that pollute the air.

Some power plants are not insulated and are high voltage.

This creates air pollution. Pesticides used to kill indoor and outdoor pests, insecticides used to kill insects and herbicides use to kill weeds all cause air pollution.

Radioactive fallout causes air pollution from the nuclear energy dispersed, which is a dust.

Dust from fertilizers used to help plants grow causes air pollution. Sick building syndrome (SBS) is the term used when there is an indoor air pollution. This happens when there is not enough  ventilization to disburse the toxic fumes from carpet, paint and or cleaning chemicals that are used indoors. Mold can also cause SBS.

Mining causes air pollution by releasing a variety of particles. Mills and plants, includes paper mills, chemical plants, iron mills, steel mills, cement plants and asphalt plants, release emotion into the air causing air pollution.

Because we are not sure and we are not safe of the air that we breathe we should know what are the does and don't in order to avoid and not to create more pollution to our air.

Polluting Our Water

Everywhere we go, we are not safe with our environment around us. Our air, even our water is now polluted with dirts coming from different contamination. We are not sure if the water we are drinking is still safe or what will be its effect to our health? These but are just the result of man's negligence of its environment, the result of many discoveries that they didn't even notice that it already resulted to pollution.

Water pollution is the contamination of the water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans, groundwater).
Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water; and, in almost all cases affect is damaging not only to individual species and population, but also to the natural biological communities. Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.

Water pollution is a major problem in the global context. It has been suggested that it is the leading worldwide cause of deaths and diseases, and that it accounts for the deaths of more than 14,000 people daily.

Love Environment/Preserve Nature

Now, try to observe the world, try to look at God's creation. Have you notice something? Have you notice changes? Definitely yes. I hope you would agree with me. A very great change is happening to the nature, the mountains (forests) and even in the water (sea). Maybe some of us haven't notice it, but certainly there's a great change in our environment which was done by human's abusive attitude.

God gave humans freedom when it comes to nature, on how to take care of it, or what to do with it.
Because human is wise enough and has its own way of thinking on how to improve nature, they didn't even notice that what they did is a great abuse to our environment. Just like the cutting of trees in the forest. They thought that what they did was good because they can use those timbers in some other uses but the negative effect is that, it creates floods due to soil erusion because roots of trees which use to hold soil was cut down and nothing can hold the soil anymore.

Another thing is the hunting of the wild animals. They did it because of the reason that they can make money out of it. Sad to say that it creates another harm to our environment. This animals live in their place freely because as humans they were created by God to explore their surroundings freely. This wild animals plays a greater contribution in biodiversity. Hope that human would think over it. Not to think just for their own goods but for the benefits of all. Many more things will happen if we keep on abusing our environmment. Many lives will be lost and many creatures will be harm.

Let's take care of our environment. Preserve nature that  God entrusted to us.

GLOBAL WARMING: HOW TO END

What is Global Warming?
Global is defined as the increase of the average temperature on Earth, near surface air and oceans since mid-20th century and its projected continuation.

Causes:
Increasing concentrations of greenhouse gasses, which results from human activity such as the combustion of fossil fuels in cars, factories and electricity production and deforestation. The gas responsible for the most warming is carbon dioxide also called CO2.

Greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere acts like a mirror and reflect back to the earth a part of the heat radiation, which would otherwise be lost to space. The higher the concentration of greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the more heat energy is being reflected back to the Earth.
The increase of greenhouse gas concentration (mainly carbon dioxide) led to a substantial warming of the earth and sea, called Global Warming. In other words: The increase in the man-made emission of greenhouse gasses is the cause for global warming.
Effects

The effect or impact climate change maybe physical, ecological social or economic.

There are two major effects of global warming;
*Increase of temperature on the earth by about 3° to 5° C (5.4° to 9° Fahrenheit) by the year 2100.

*Rise of sea levels by at least 25 meters (82 feet) by the year 2100.

More details about the effects of global warming

The increase of temperature causes ranges of changes. Sea levels will rise due to thermal expansion of the ocean, in addition to melting of land ice.
Changes in temperature and preciptation patterns increase the frequency, duration, and intensity of other extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, and tornadoes. Other effects of global warming include higher or lower agricultural yields, further glacial retreat, reduce summer stream flows, species extinctions. As a further effect of global warming, diseases like malaria are returning into areas where they have been extinguished earlier.

How to END this?

Humans are personally responsible for releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning foossil fuels(transportation), home energy(electricity) and deforestation.

To end up global warming we should reduce the use of fossel fuel and home energy. Protect the native forest and help plant trees in urban and deforested area.
